We could consider our life a constant climb to achieve what we want the most, a daily challenge, and in talking about W. Bro David Green, climbing is the most appropriate word.
In this resume of The Man Behind the Apron, I thought this was the most accurate example as hill and mountain climbing is Dave’s main hobby. “Over the years I have enjoyed climbing many hills and mountains allowing me to connect with nature and myself. This simple hobby became stronger over the years and, in 2010 I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro during which I raised money for our latest Festival. Once on the top I tied my festival tie to the summit of Kilimanjaro. I took the Festival and Freemasonry to the roof of Africa.
I have also climbed the highest mountain outside the Himalayas. Mount Aconcagua in Argentina, at just under 7000mts”.
When asked why he has joined Freemasonry, Dave said: “I joined through a contact in business – I have been working in Personal Injury Claim as self-employed – and after enjoying a Boujolais social evening, in 1989, I was initiated into Mellor Lodge No.1774 without having any ideas of what was going on, as none of my family had ever been previously involved into Freemasonry. Sadly in 2017 Mellor Lodge handed in its warrant so I joined Exchange Lodge 5218 and Centurion Lodge 2322”.
Dave’s journey has been long and full of memories. “Later in my career, I joined the Air Cadets as an adult volunteer and this led on to being commissioned as an Officer into the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve training branch, where I enjoyed many years in helping young adults reaching their full potential. The highlight of this journey was receiving the honour of being part of the guard to welcome the athletes for the 2016 Olympic games”.
When Dave isn’t on duty with work, charity or Freemasonry, he enjoys spending time with his family, enjoying those simple little things, like watching a movie at home, having a nice chat or enjoying a home-made dinner, remembering how lucky he is and how his example is passed on to the new generations. Life after all, is like this, and if we can help somebody in need every day with simple actions, we will reach the top of the mountain. Dave after all, is a caring man, a dear father, husband and a friend.
