W Bro Darren Fletcher together with other masons

Darren Fletcher joined Freemasonry in September 2016. When asked what made him join, he said “I have been involved in running the Caribbean Carnival in Manchester for the last 15 years and one of the guys who I used to work with during that time, brought me into Freemasonry and the rest is history”.

As a very charitable man, W. Bro Fletcher, ‘Fletch’ to his friends, started to get involved in many projects to raise money and help people in need. Quiz nights, parachute jumping, action nights are but a few of the events that he has organized to raise money for families in need around the area.

Fletch is married to Mary who each have two children from their previous relationships, and since marrying in 2009 also have had two children together: Logan aged 13 and Ethan aged 11 years old. They are very supportive of his Masonic work.

During his youth he looked to obtain a Commercial Pilot License, ultimately obtaining his private pilots licence (PPL).Today, however he is often seen flying around various lodges, supporting their endeavours, in his role as Communications officer.

One example of his endeavours was his involvement in creating the Manchester Level Club (MLC) with W Bro Pip Titterton, which has now evolved into the East Lancashire masonic level club. The focus of this was to provide opportunities to relatively new Masons, from a variety of lodges, to get together to socialise with each other, gain a greater understanding of the philanthropic aims of the fraternity, whilst practising and learning aspects of the ritual and ceremonies associated with the various degrees in Freemasonry.

Fletch says, “My main hobby is now Freemasonry, but more than a hobby it soon became a way of living. I love helping people, seeing them happy and learning from them. Everyone has a story and getting to know that story can change our life. It doesn’t take much. Freemasonry has started to see more walk-in’s joining in the last few years and I’m so excited to be there and witness with my own eyes the message of Freemasonry spreading around, because ultimately, this is very rewarding.

In 2022 Fletch was given the Provincial honour of Provincial Acting Grand Steward and Communication Officer for the City East Area, which he said was particularly proud moment of his Masonic journey.
