On a crisp Saturday evening, Manchester Hall shimmered with warmth and laughter as 63 guests gathered beneath its grand chandelier for a night unlike any other. The polished parquet floor reflected the glow of golden wall lights, while the room buzzed with anticipation—this was no ordinary disco. It was a fancy-dress celebration held in aid of the cherished Broken Column Dinner, a cause close to many hearts that helps widows of departed Masons remain connected to the Manchester and Salford Masonic community.

From the moment the doors opened, the hall transformed into a lively tapestry of characters. Superheroes stood shoulder to shoulder with rogues and royalty; a mischievous burglar posed beside a towering dinosaur, while a striking figure dressed as a bishop mingled among doctors, masked crusaders, and glittering gowns. Laughter echoed as friends reunited, stories were shared, and new memories began to form.

Music filled the room, and soon the dance floor came alive. Costumes swirled under the lights as guests danced with abandon, the evening’s joyful spirit evident in every step. It wasn’t just about the spectacle—it was about togetherness, about keeping bonds strong and spirits high in honour of those no longer present.

Midway through the evening, the excitement shifted to a friendly but fiercely contested quiz. Teams huddled together, whispering answers and debating questions, the air thick with playful rivalry. In the end, it was Doug McCafferty who emerged victorious, earning well-deserved applause and bragging rights for the night.

But perhaps the most anticipated moment came with the announcement of the best costume. After much admiration and deliberation, the prize was awarded to Steve Wallace of City West, whose portrayal of a bishop captured both imagination and applause. His outfit stood out among an already dazzling array, a testament to the effort and creativity that everyone had brought to the evening.

As the night drew on, the music continued, the laughter grew louder, and the sense of community deepened. It was more than just a disco—it was a celebration of friendship, remembrance, and support. By the time the final song played and guests began to drift away, tired but smiling, one thing was certain: a lot of fun had truly been had by all, and the spirit of the Broken Column Dinner shone brightly throughout the night.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who attended and made the evening such a memorable success—your enthusiasm, generosity, and spirit truly brought the night to life. Events like this only thrive because of the wonderful people who support them. If you enjoyed the evening and would like to continue supporting this meaningful cause, we warmly invite you to join us at the upcoming Broken Column Dinner, where we can once again come together to honour, remember, and strengthen our community bonds.
