On Tuesday 12 November, Zion Menorah Lodge welcomed one hundred and forty five attendees to Manchester Hall to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary in Freemasonry of Martin Caller. Family members, friends, Lodge members, visiting brethren, wives and partners joined the occasion, with one hundred and forty three staying for the Social Board afterwards.
The Lodge was honoured by the presence of a strong Provincial deputation led by the Provincial Grand Master, Robert Frankl. The delegation was expertly coordinated by John Lees, Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, supported by Lee Gridley, Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies.
Making up the delegation were the Deputy Provincial Grand Master, John Griffin, Assistant Provincial Grand Masters Peter Hegarty, Dave McGurty, John Curry, Dr Simon Archer, Wes Merchant and Mo Afsa Assistant to the Three Grand Principles, along with a number of Grand Officers.
After the Lodge was called off, the gathering moved into the Lodge room for tributes. Michael Bartle spoke first, offering a warm reflection on Martin’s Masonic journey and the support he has given to so many. He was followed by the Provincial Grand Master, who delivered a sincere and well-received tribute on behalf of the Province. A common theme throughout the evening was Martin’s natural ability to mentor others and the positive influence he has had across his Lodge and the wider Province.
At the Social Board, Martin’s son in law, Danny Summerfield, delivered a personal and tribute that resonated with all present.
During the formal proceedings, Martin was presented with his fiftieth anniversary certificate. He was also presented with a fiftieth anniversary pin badge by Steve Wallace, Deputy Chairman for the City West Area, marking the occasion with a gesture warmly appreciated by the assembled brethren.
The evening also demonstrated the generosity of those present, with one thousand two hundred and fifty pounds raised for good causes. Martin added a personal donation to the 2026 Festival Appeal.
The celebrations concluded with a lively and well-attended Social Board, where guests enjoyed an evening of friendship, conversation and shared memories.
Zion Menorah Lodge and the Province congratulate Martin Caller on reaching this significant milestone and thank him for fifty years of dedicated service to Freemasonry.
